Moving Home is a big undertaking.
You've got questions... here are the answers...
Crown Relocations specialises in the packing, storage, and transportation of household goods both within New Zealand and internationally. Crown has grown from humble beginnings to become worldwide leaders in the Relocations Industry with over 5000 staff in 55 countries.
1. How much will it cost?
For larger moves it’s always ideal for us to
visit your home to determine the cost of your move, as it depends on
numerous factors such as packing, access, size of consignment, number
of staff etc. With this information we can compile an accurate
quotation tailored to your individual move.
2. What areas do you cover in New Zealand?
We cover the whole of New Zealand with our own
transport offering full, part and return load services. And of course
we can move you virtually anywhere in the world, in conjunction with
our network of Crown branches and service partners around the globe.
3. How much notice do you require?
Crown Relocations are usually booked between 7
and 14 days before the expected move takes place. For international
relocations ideally at least 21 days notice is required. Please always
try to give as much notice as possible.
4. Can Crown provide a pre-move consultation?
Your Crown consultant will help you choose the
service delivery that best meets your needs, explain what to expect
when you arrive at your new destination and answer all of your
questions. Together, you will choose and schedule a packing day(s).
5. Does Crown provide a relocation plan?
Yes, all of the pertinent information will be
documented on your “Relocation Planner”. The “Relocation Planner”
includes a countdown for a successful move. This information will help
you plan your move in advance, from the date you start packing to the
time your personal belongings are delivered to your new home.
6. Does Crown provide “Settling In Tips”?
Yes, customized tip sheets provide useful
advice from Crown professionals who live in different cities around the
world, including information about transportation, schools, shopping,
accommodation, banking and much more. “Settling In Tips” are available
for over a 100 international cities.
7. What size are your vehicles?
We operate a range of purpose built removal vehicles and containers. Please let us know if there is difficult access at either address as this will allow us to plan your move with smaller vehicles or make the necessary arrangements to transship your goods.
8. What training does Crown offer for its staff and how does this benefit me?
Being an International relocation company we
have an internal program with continuous training throughout the year.
This program also runs in association with ISO 9001 and our own Quest
program. Stringent staff selection supported by complete induction
training and ongoing assessments allows our customers to receive a
complete relocation experience.
9. Can I pack my own cartons?
Many countries are no longer accepting
shipments that were packed by owner. In addition, any damage incurred
to items you packed yourself may not be covered by transit protection.
Therefore, it is suggested that you let Crown pack your household
items. All Crown crews are professionally trained and have years of
experience packing people’s precious belongings.
10. How does Crown pack my China, Glass and Crystal?
We use tube wrapping for stemmed glassware, crystal and fine china. Each item is wrapped in craft paper before being rolled into strips of corrugated cardboard which creates a tube or cylinder effect. The finished tube creates a cushioning effect at each end of the packages which provides maximum protection against any downward pressure on the carton. This is a highly recommended technique for fragile items.
11. Will the Packing Crew use the original packing materials for my appliances?
If you have any of the original cartons and
packing materials for your appliances or other household items, make
sure that you inform your Crew Supervisor. He or she will inspect the
materials to determine whether your goods will be safer using these or
our own specialized packing materials.
12. Do you dismantle and re-assemble my bed, wardrobe etc.?
Our staff will carry out dismantling and
re-assembling to the best of their ability. It is important that we
know what is required at the quotation stage to allow for the necessary
resources and equipment to be provided.
13. Do I need to unpack my Chest of Drawers?
Providing the unit is sturdy enough then light
items such as clothing, bedding etc. can be left in. Please remove any
books, magazines, breakable items etc. Self assembly furniture does not
respond well to moving so this type of furniture must only be moved
while completely empty.
14. What should I do with my gas cylinders of flammable liquids?
Gas cylinders cannot be transported on our
vehicles unless purged. Flammable liquids, however contained, must not
be submitted for removal either. These items are not covered under our
insurance, other arrangements must be made. Equipment such as garden
mowers and chainsaws should be drained of all liquids beforehand.
15. Does my furniture get placed to my requirements?
It is always best if you have a clear idea of
where you want your furniture to be placed. Our staff will arrange the
rooms to your liking but will not have the time to continually
rearrange your room.
16. Will the Crew unpack for me?
The Crown Crew will unpack your effects and
take away all used packing material. You may also choose to have Crown
arrange handyman or domestic help services to help you get settled into
your new home.
17. Does Crown provide storage (Long term or temporarily)?
We can service all your storage needs in our modern facilities which are approved and licensed by the New Zealand Customs department. As a result our facilities must adhere to strict requirements to ensure safety and security such as: monitored alarms, structural specifications and controlled public access.
18. What is the size of your storage containers?
Our hometainers hold approximately 8 cubic
meters. These are standard removal industry size, ideal to be
fork-lifted on and off vehicles allowing us to load and unload directly
at your premises if conditions permit.
19. How long can I store for?
>You can store your goods for as long or short a
period as necessary. Storage is charged weekly and all customers
receive an invoice/statement every month.
20. How can I pay for storage?
You can pay by cheque, credit or debit card. A popular option is to pay by direct debit if you are storing for a longer of time.
21. What items are not allowed to be stored?
>Flammable items, gas bottles, plants, any opened food such as oils, sauces etc.
22. Why is insurance protection necessary?
While Crown’s professional crew will pack,
transport and unpack your belongings as safely and securely as
possible, it is important to note that these items will be traveling on
a boat, plane, truck or other mode of transport – all of which carry
inherent risks.
23. How do I track my shipment?
All of crown’s worldwide facilities are linked
by a common communications and operating network. This technological
investment means that before you arrive at your new destination, the
local Crown office will already have up to date information on your
relocation. Crown’s website, www.crownrelo.com/login, lets you track your shipment in real-time using any computer with internet access
